3 Reasons to Declutter Your Makeup Collection

3 Reasons to Declutter Your Makeup Collection

Back in high school I had this huge obsession with makeup. I was always buying new makeup which was sooo bad now that I look back since half my makeup collection was untouched. I caught myself only using my favorite products that I knew worked for my skin and I realized, I really didn't need anything else than the products I was using on an everyday basis.

It was also pretty impossible for me to finish all my makeup before it expired. I found myself throwing away products that I barely used. I was creating waste, throwing away my money and supporting unethical brands.

I have learned to not buy into the newest trending products and by doing so I have significantly created less waste and saved money. I have always been pretty good about decluttering my makeup but today I really dove in deep with the declutter.

Before the Declutter

The idea is to only keep the products I love and will 100% use. I went from having around 4 drawers with makeup down to 2. But back in high school I used to have about 7 drawers filled with makeup, it was an obsession let me just say. My rule from now on is to only repurchase products or try a new product if one of my current products is expired or empty. This will make sure I don't overfill my 2 drawers of makeup or waste any products.

After the Declutter (what I kept)

I got rid of majority of my powders, I realized I really only need a translucent loose powder for my under-eye concealer, so I kept the Cover FX Perfecting Setting Powder. A compact powder for my entire face so I kept the Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish (leaves my skin looking pore-less, love this for my dry skin). For foundations I kept 3 out of 8. One full-coverage foundation & two everyday foundations that can be a built up to a medium coverage foundation. My skin is dry so I kept a lot of my unexpired cream/liquid products. I kept products that just work well for my skin.

As my current products in my drawers begin to expire or I finish them, I will be buying makeup from clean beauty brands, black-owned brands and ethical brands I want to support. A few brands on my list that I will be supporting in the future is Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez. I feel like her formula is going to be suitable for people with dry skin and give a lightweight skin like feeling, super excited to get my hands on some Rare Beauty products. Some other brands are Ilia Beauty, Tower 28, Axiology, and more Kosas products.
